Our vision is to be a ‘light on a hill’.

We are a house that seeks to illuminate Jesus in all that we do (John 1:1-9), and to carry that light into the world around us (Isaiah 60:1-3).

“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colours in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.

- Matthew 5:14-16 (MSG)

We are absolutely JESUS FOCUSED.

We are unequivocally BIBLE BELIEVING.

We are unashamedly PENTECOSTAL.

Light Church is in fellowship with Assemblies of God in Great Britain.

AoG is made up of over 500 churches in close to 600 locations throughout Great Britain. It is a Pentecostal movement which believes that every individual can and should have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and have the opportunity to be part of a local, vibrant church.

Read what AoG churches believe about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the Bible, and other significant aspects of our faith here.

Our story.

Our church began in 1941 in the founding pastor’s front room.  Charles Harthern was sent from his original church to a meeting where he was so impacted by the Holy Spirit that he had to leave his church and he started a small group in his home.

Pentecostalism is in our DNA!

Mr Harthern was an air raid shelter warden and, with a captive audience during the Second World War, the church grew.

The church moved to our current location in 1967 and was built on the site of Mr Harthern’s bungalow and coal yard.

The church has seen many changes over the decades and has grown - but have held fast to the vision to “be a light on the hill of Penkhull and beyond”.
